Established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 20th October 1956. The medal was awarded for devloping/reclaiming virgin or untilled lands within the Soviet Union. The Obverse of this medal depicts an early combine harvester collecting the wheat. There are large grain silos in the background. The reverse of the medal has the Hammer and Sickle, along with two ears of grain.
