Established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the 30th September 1945, it was awarded for direct participation in the defeat of Japan during the Second World War. The Obverse of the medal shows a bust of Stalin, with the words "For Victory Over Japan". The reverse has "3 September 1945".
