Established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 1st May 1994, the medal was awarded for the defence of Moscow 1941-42. The time period was no less than one month between 19th October 1941 and 25th January 1942. Air defence personnel from 22nd July 1941 to 25th January 1942 and all those who actively participated in teh construction of defensive lines.
The Obverse of the medal shows a T-34 tank, loaded with troops. Behind the tank is a depiction of the Statue of Vasily Blazhemy which stands outside the Catherdral in the Kremlin. The Kremlin is in the background with 5 planes flying overhead. The Reverse of the medal has the russian for "The defence of Moscow."
