The N.A.T.O. (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) medal was first issued in for operations in the Former Yugoslavia, the first time that N.A.T.O. had been to war since its forming after the second world war. Personnel qualified by being under N.A.T.O. control and by serving 30 days accumulated service in the theatre of operations, ie Yugosalvia or 90 dyas within the area of N.A.T.O. command. The Obverse of this medal shows the N.A.T.O. star, whilst the obverse has 'North Atlantic Treaty Organisation' and 'In service of peace and freedom', in both English and French.
