The medal shown was issued to 2645 Private W. Thompson of the 2nd York and Lancaster Regiment. The medal obverse can be see depicted the 'veiled' head of Queen Victoria, whilst the reverse shows the Sphinx with the date 1882 below, later conflicts of 1884 to 1889 were issued without this date.
The Egypt Medal is one of the 'great' Victorian medals, along with the Queen's South Afica Medal.
