Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
Date: 1830
Reciptent: Pte W.Cheeseman 76th Regiment
Services: Army ranks
Medal Composite: Silver
Number Issued: Ongoing Issuement
One of the longest medals to be issued, from 1830 the designed has changed very little.
On the obverse of the medal can be seen the Royal coat of Arms, prior to 1855 this showed the Hanover
arms, and post 1901 the reigning Monarch was shown instead of the elaborate array. The elaborate array
as shown here depicts the royal coat of arms, several sword handles, a cannon, an early mortar, three
helmets (with plumage), cannon balls, rifles and a drum and bugle. The latter two being very important for
rallying the Regiment and keeping step.
The reverse of the medal has remained unchanged, except for the style of writing. It reads "For Long Service
and Good Conduct".
